R.L. Ben Kellert
Ben was born and raised on a farm southeast of Leduc Alberta. He attended a small country church a mile from his farm. He experienced many things there, both life lessons and spiritual lessons. At the age of seventeen his parents sold the family farm and they moved to Wetaskiwin. That is where Ben finished his high school. During those high school years Ben was involved in his church youth group and also involved in ministry at seniors homes.
Upon completion of high school he moved to Edmonton and started work. He was involved in youth group and youth choirs.
In the fall of 1980, he entered Bible College and graduated three years later with a diploma in theology.
During the second and third year of Bible College, Ben and Tanny (Fiancée then Wife) were involved as Junior High Youth Pastors at Millwood’s Pentecostal Assembly.
Upon graduation from Bible College Ben and His wife Tanny moved to Calgary, Alberta, where Ben began his position as youth pastor at Elim Assembly. There he was involved in Youth ministry, Street ministry, and Prison ministry. He served there for four and a half years.
He was then offered a position as the senior pastor of Brooks Pentecostal Assembly in Brooks, Alberta where he served for five and a half years. While in Brooks Ben was quite involved in the community, serving on community boards and was very active in the ministerial association. He also started a handyman service for single moms, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
Ben and his young family then moved to the other corner of the province and accepted a position as senior Pastor in Barrhead, Alberta. As pastor of Bethel Pentecostal Church, Ben once again got very involved in his community. From being one of the advisory committee members for the Zone 5 summer games to singing and praying at community events and hockey games. He also with the help of some wonderful volunteers launched one of the most successful Vacation Bible School programs in the area. It still sees 100 plus children each summer.
For 8 years Ben was the Chaplain at Marketplace Chapel in West Edmonton Mall. During that time he has been involved in many events both in and outside of the mall. He has also had opportunity to perform over 340 weddings in the last six years that he was there.
For Just over six years Ben was involved first as program director and then as executive director of Youth For Christ in Westlock, Alberta. This has brought him closer to his farming roots and also back to his passion of working with young people. He is involved with the young people in school, community and at the drop – a centre called “Someplace Else”. He was also involved in starting a women’s shelter which opened in early 2011. Through the woman’s shelter there was opportunity to minister to more than forty ladies (some with children). In February of 2014 Ben resigned his position at YFC to care for some health issues.
For the past year God has been restoring him and he feels capable now of continuing on with the call that God put on his life during his teenage years.
Ben and Tanny have two grown and married children. Stacey, who married Chris Vanderwark in November 2014 and Josh, who married Aila in August 2013. Both couples live in Edmonton and are very busy with their jobs and in their churches.
Ben and Tanny have a passion to see souls reached for the Kingdom of God. They have a burning desire to not only experience the blessings of God, but to have others experience the Father as well.
Ben’s music and ministry very clearly demonstrate His love for God and his passion for others.
He is also a Licensed Auctioneer which has opened some unique doors for ministry as well.
